So I was talking about our trip into town, in Tianjin. Along the light rail line, we saw quite a lot of heavy industry. Factories making cement, building tractors, stuff like this. We saw also quite a lot of fields - not sure what was growing in there. And we saw a lot of really decrepit and falling-down looking housing. The "real China" I guess. Anyways, we eventually go to Tianjin. The light rail only goes to sort of the outskirts of the city, so we had to taxi in quite a ways. We finally go to our destination which was the "Old City", some kind of touristy place. But instead of going in there, we ended up in some big market in a back alley. It really did look like a back alley, but inside there were hundreds of little shops and stalls. They sold all sorts of things, but primarily clothes. We didn't get any clothes, but Allison did get a pair of shoes. The market was literally on unpaved, dirt roads. Anyways, that was a lot of fun.

Did that back alley in any way remind you of Chinatown in Vancouver?

No, Chinatown in Vancouver is at least paved.
